Mr. Sheikh Salahul Islam, Head (Muhtamim) of Imam Muslim Madrasa, warmly welcomed all the guests and visitors to the madrasa premises. Md. Azad Rahman, Project Manager of UNDP Bangladesh, provided a brief overview of the training program and facilitated a discussion session with the management committee of Imam Muslim Madrasa. During the meeting, a citation was read aloud, and a crest was presented by the madrasa authorities to Mr. Arjit Singh, High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh, in recognition of his presence and support.

Mr. Sheikh Salahul Islam expressed his gratitude, stating, “First of all, I would like to thank GAC and the Government of Canada for their support towards orphaned and underprivileged girls in our madrasa. With the support of GAC, we currently have 20 students enrolled in the pre-vocational training course under the ISEC project of UNDP. However, our madrasa has 1,200 students, many of whom are eligible for such skills training courses. Suppose more support is provided, including an increase in the number of computers and sewing machines. In that case, more students will have the opportunity to benefit from both religious education and vocational skills development.”

He further added, “I have visited several countries, including India, Thailand, and Saudi Arabia, and observed their significant advancements. These experiences inspired me to initiate such programs for orphaned and disadvantaged children in our country.”

Mr. Arjit Singh, High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh, also shared his thoughts, saying, “I am here because I am inspired by the education system in Canada and believe we can work together to improve education in Bangladesh. Through the ISEC project, I am optimistic that we can enhance the skills and economic opportunities of youth and women, particularly in Cox’s Bazar.”

During the visit, the Honorable High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh, Mr. Arjit Singh, actively engaged with the trainees and trainers in a question-and-answer session. He posed insightful questions, such as why the students were pursuing the course, their plans after completing it, and whether they received family support for their training.

The girl trainees enthusiastically shared their responses, expressing their aspirations to secure better jobs and build meaningful careers. Some mentioned their desire to become self-employed entrepreneurs. Additionally, all the trainees conveyed that they receive strong support from their families for both skills training and regular religious education.
